This district looks back on an eventful history, which begins in the 17th century with a former defence system. It is formed by the influence of different cultures.

The Portuguese immigrants of the 1970s were followed by other immigrants who built new lives here and also distinguished the Schanze in terms of cuisine: there is a good reason that the main street is called “Galao-Strich”.
